This is primarily a web-based campaign where EU citizens can post their support for our campaign, make comments about the development of a new green economy and understand how they can equip their home with energy efficient products. The website is being promoted in seven EU member states (France, Germany, UK, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Austria) to show shoppers how much they could save by going green.
EDRA figures show that the price of many premium eco-products, such as household appliances, green furniture, solar panels or boilers, would become affordable for millions of hard-pressed consumers who wish to save energy and save money.
Lowering VAT requires the agreement of all 27 European member states and can only be made if the European Commission drafts a proposal for a 5% rate. The EDRA online campaign is calling on 1 million consumers to vote for that change. Under EU Treaty rules, the Commission would be obliged to start a debate should the 1 million signatures be reached. EDRA is calling on EU policymakers to go further, and make this change as soon as the 1 million signatures are reached so that consumers can save money and save the environment.
